Free Trade

It is a mystery to me why this splendid strathspey should be one of the lesser known tunes thought to be written by James Hill. I learnt it from Graham Dixon’s seminal book ‘The Lads Like Beer’ which has for many years been the key publication for anyone wishing to familiarize themselves with Hill’s tunes. There is still a pub on Tyneside called the Free Trade which did at one time host a fine instrumental session.
