Songs, Stories & Laughter for George Welch

Sat 7th March, 3.00 – 9.00 pm
@ Gosforth Civic Theatre

A memorial concert to acknowledge George’s huge contribution to the folk world in a life of music, laughter and smiles… bringing together many of the best folk acts in the north who have freely given their time and talent to celebrate George’s life with their outstanding music… a fitting tribute to such a memorable character who left an indelible mark on the world of folk music… tickety boo!” Tickets from Gosforth Civic Theatre.

George Welch & Stewart Hardy

Together for more than ten years, George and Stewart indulged in a “busman’s holiday” – playing for the sheer pleasure of doing so and delighting audiences with the characteristic spontaneity which is the hallmark of their unashamedly shambolic (but in a good way!) show.

George’s hilarious stories gave way to lilting melodies, driving tunes and moving songs, delivered with a baritone voice that had the richness of molasses.

Once you heard George perform his songs, accompanied by his own guitar playing and Stewart’s fiddle, you were not left in any doubt that the success of this highly entertaining duo was built on solid musical foundations.
