Advanced Fiddle Workshop – Oct 2025 with Stewart Hardy
Sun 26th October, 10.00 am – 5.00 pm Wall Village Hall, Northumberland NE46 4DX
This workshop will provide a warm-up, technical exercises and tunes taught as if by ear for advanced fiddle players. The tunes themselves will be selected from a repertoire that includes a fabulously groovy Swedish waltz, Vals från Seglora, and Stewart’s West Allen Jig, both of which featured in the May JSArts Advanced Fiddle Weekend but for which there was sadly not enough time left to cover. In addition we have an old favourite reel by Tom Anderson, Da Sweerie Box, and the utterly amazing Shotgun Polska by Andy May, which started life as an innocent 3/2 hornpipe and was appropriated by his Finnish colleagues in Baltic Crossing. What a stonker of a tune!!
Audio and basic notation will be available a week before the workshop. Full worksheets will be provided at the workshop (printed and/or pdf), with any follow-up resources available afterwards. Workshop resources and tea/coffee will be provided. Lunch is not included so please bring your own, and a music stand if required.
