Play-along Session in Harmony for Mixed Instruments
This will be a Zoom call open to intermediate players (and above) of any instrument. Notation will be provided in advance for all the tunes, together with suggestions for basic chords and a harmony line, but feel free to join in by ear! You can play the tune along with Stewart, play an accompaniment with a bass line, chords or a harmony (your own or follow the suggestions) or enjoy playing the tune whilst Stewart plays a harmony. If you wish to join in on an instrument with a different range from the fiddle, or with specfic key requirements, please get in touch before booking.
Friday 21st May, 19:00 – 21:00
A single workshop is £20, attend two for £35 or all three for £50.
Bookings open now
If you haven’t attended a music workshop on Zoom before, here is a page of Zoom Workshop Tips to get the most out of your experience. A strong and reliable internet connection, plus headphones or an external speaker are recommended. A recording of the live call will be available for those who experience technical difficulties, or who find themselves unable to attend the live Zoom call.
2 days agoJust one week to go until our May Workshops! Next Friday evening will be the Play-along session with lots of luscious harmony lines. Then on the Saturday there will be the chance to learn two great tunes; the beautifully lyrical tune, Marino Casino, by John Sheahan, and a terrific, punchy rant from the legenday Northumbrian piper, Chris Ormston, called Saint Cuthbert Crossing the Rhine. If you've been wondering about signing up to the fiddle workshops, but weren't sure about how Stewart goes about teaching a tune, you might want to check out this video tutorial on the English jig, Summer Dance, recorded last July. Stewart introduces different types of bowing patterns to try, and breaks down the tune, teaching it phrase by phrase, before adding ornamentation and lazy bows to the whole tune. 7 days agoWe have been enjoying these weekend workshops on Zoom tremendously, and whilst we still can't run workshops in person they are a great way to continue playing and learning.Friday's evening play-along session is open to all instruments, and the notation (with harmony and chord suggestions) and audio files of the tunes will be provided in advance. 🎻🎹🎸🎷🎺🪕 (yes, transposing instruments and other clefs are welcome and will be catered for! Please get in touch early to request details)🎻 The two fiddle workshops on Sat 22nd May will each teach a tune, phrase by phrase with all the tips and techniques required to bring the tune off the page - once you know the trick to playing any awkward passages you’ll wonder what the problem ever was! The morning workshop will look at John Sheahan’s beautifully lyrical tune, Marino Casino, and in the afternoon we will explore a terrific Northumbrian rant by legendary piper Chris Ormston, Saint Cuthbert Crossing the Rhine.Notation and audio files are provided in advance and recordings of the Zoom calls will be available afterwards for participants to replay on demand. 🎧💻Full details and links for booking are here:www.stewarthardy.co.uk/may-workshops-2021/Play-along Session in Harmony: Fri 21st May, 7.00 - 9.00 pmFiddle Workshop 1: Sat 22nd May, 10.00 am - 12 noonFiddle Workshop 2: Sat 22nd May, 2.00 - 4.00 pmWorkshops are £20 each, 2 workshops for £35, or 3 for £50 ...
