Beeswing (James Hill)
She was one of the most successful horses in racing history, achieving celebrity status and drawing covetous looks from racing enthusiasts including, it is said, Queen Victoria. The ‘Pride of the North’, as Beeswing was known, inspired James Hill to compose one of his very best tunes and one of the finest examples of the nineteenth century Tyneside hornpipe. Here it is at four different speeds with the famous variations by Sean McGuire played at the fastest tempo, as well as separated out and played at a steady tempo.
